Following the enormous success of The Embroidered Village Bag and The Embroidered Patchwork Bear, we have published The Embroidered Miniature Quilt.
One of New Zealand’s leading patchworkers and embroiderers, Helen Marshall, has created this breathtaking quilt, measuring 52cm (20.5″) square. She has adapted the designs from historic Baltimore quilts to a much smaller scale, offering a perfect opportunity for embroiderers to try new stumpwork skills in a very different context and challenging quilters to add embroidery embellishment to their creations.
Helen has cleverly devised ways to imitate fruits, flowers and vegetables to achieve a wonderful three-dimensional effect and the simple quilting design on the background and border complements the intricate embroidery beautifully.
With 38 stitches and techniques, all clearly illustrated, you will be guided every step of the way using easy to follow, step-by-step photographs and detailed instructions. Full size pattern and construction diagrams help you put all the pieces together to form this unique miniature quilt.
Best of all, each of the nine designs is an easily achievable project and can stand on its own or easily be adapted to many other uses. Within these pages, you’ll find more than just one project – the opportunities are endless. Try adapting each design to embellish a large patchwork quilt, create your own unique gift cards or use one on a cushion.
You’ll also enjoy finding out more about the history of Baltimore Quilts and the symbolic meaning behind each of the designs.
