Trish Burr convinced us of her remarkable skill as a thread painter of flowers with her first book, ‘Redoute’s Finest Flowers in Embroidery’. In this beautiful new book, she uses a wide variety of garden flowers as her subjects. As with her first book, she takes time to explain her technique, starting with basic ‘starter flower’ designs, before moving on to glorious lilies, magnolias and irises, among others.
We all know long and short stitch – it is a simple stitch, commonly used to embroider flowers. Here, Trish shows us that when it is worked in soft wools and lustrous silks, carefully observing stitch direction, it can perfectly reproduce the light and shade of petals and leaves. The many beautiful designs in this book are complete in themselves, but the embroiderer will find that the techniques learned can then be adapted to other flower embroidery.
