From the editor, Coral Moss

I have had a love of fashion and also various decorative arts for as long as I can remember. As a child growing up in Melbourne, I was introduced to dress making by my mother and grandmother and my skills were further developed when I studied fashion design at college. When Dennis and I married, we settled in Adelaide and I continued to work in the fashion industry until i joined the Department of Further Education as a teacher. When our boys Nick and Tim were young, I spent time at home while studying part time at the South Australian School of Art, where I majored in printmaking and textile design.

On my return to work, I chose to freelance as a designer and pattern maker for local manufactures and also produced and marketed a range of children’s clothes under my own label. I operated these businesses for ten years before joining the publishing team at Country Bumpkin.

After filling various editorial positions on both our magazines and having recently reached the milestone of twenty-one issues as pattern designer forĀ Inspirations, I can now say, “I have come of age”.

While glancing through the pages of the final proof of this, my first issue as Editor, I can proudly say that my team has produced a magazine full of inspiring projects, enjoyable reading and fantastic photograph.

We have for some time been given considerable thought to the content of our magazine and we plan in the future to add much more variety to the types of projects we offer. We are particularly aware if the need to provide for children, teenagers, and young market and adults. Our aim is to gradually introduce some bright, modern and innovative projects while still retaining traditional smocking.
