Rainbow Bee Eaters In The Mulla Mulla:
by Helen Richman
Helen Richman is a professional hand embroiderer who runs The Bluebird Embroidery Company. Helen regularly teaches at the Royal School of Needlework in the UK and was part of the team who worked on a number of items for Their Majesties Coronation.

Suitable for all skill levels, this beautiful Bee Eaters of the Mulla Mulla workshop is based on an original painting by Western Australian artist Tom Montgomery.
Tom’s painting will be printed onto fabric and Helen will expertly guide you through how to work the silk shading stitching on the birds.

Class Description:
Learn the delicate art of silk shading hand embroidery to create this beautiful and colourful design Rainbow Bee Eaters in the Mulla Mulla. Based on the original watercolour painting by Tom Montgomery, a West Australian artist, working in Broome. The stitching is used to build up the texture and shading of these characterful birds. The painting will be printed onto fabric prior to the class and the silk shading embroidery will be worked in a number of DMC stranded cotton threads. For two of the birds, the head and neck are decorated with silk shading which extends and blends down into the printed fabric of the body. The third bird can be entirely worked in silk shading, but this could be kept to just the head if the participant wishes.

Bee Eater design Kit includes:

DMC stranded cotton colours:

Winter Bright Hellebore
~ Introduction to Raised Embroidery ~
Anna Scott

Winter Bright Hellebore is an introduction to Raised Embroidery (or Stumpwork) and is ideal if you have no or only little prior experience with the technique.
This Miniature design measures just 5cm in diameter and fits beautifully into the top of a small music box or pot.

The miniature hellebore is stitched onto cotton fabric using a mix of silk threads and stranded cotton, with highlights of tiny gold beads and fine metallic thread.

Winter Bright Hellebore is embroidered, using common embroidery stitches. You will learn simple raised embroidery techniques such as stitch and felt padding, using needlewoven picots for foliage and three methods of creating raised leaves and petals using wire.
We will cover all stitches and techniques during the class so that you can complete your embroidery comfortably in your own time. To get the most from this class, I recommend that you are familiar with general embroidery stitches and are comfortable stitching with fine threads.
